"To prepare all students to be useful, productive citizens in the 21st century":  This is the Sequoia Union High School District's recently approved vision.

Career Technical Education (CTE), a federal movement, will help us to make this vision a reality.  More specifically, the District hopes to "create a career technical education standards-based system for all students that is responsive to local and regional work development needs" (SUSHD Board-approved mission).

SUHSD CTE Goals and Expected OutcomesTop of Page

Sequoia district schools continue to introduce and mature exciting career technical education (CTE) programs on the cutting edge of a 21st Century global economy. Much different than vocational programs of times-gone-by, today's CTE programs help students prepare for both college and careers through pathway programs that integrate academic knowledge with technical/occupational knowledge and skills. Students tailor their individualized course of study depending on their own personal post-secondary educational plans and career interests.

The Sequoia district leadership and school board have identified a robust CTE initiative as a priority goal, with particular focus on designing and implementing CTE courses that provide all students employable skills and access to internships and mentoring opportunities. Ensuring all students have equal access to CTE courses and programs is also a high priority. Strengthening the commitment further, starting with the class of 2013, all students will be requires to complete one full year of an approved CTE course.
