The secret of success is transforming your passion into a career. What is your passion? If, like most people, you do not yet have an answer, visit the College and Career Center to get some guidance. You can research careers using computer-based programs such as Bridges. Career day and guest speakers that visit classes throughout the year provide opportunity for you to gain insights from an industry professional.

The College and Career Center provides excellent resources for all your college needs. Information about almost any college is available be it a...

Applications to almost all colleges can be found using the following web sites:

www.californiacolleges.edu has information on every college in California.

www.ecccco.edu has information on every California Community College.

www.calstate.edu has information on California State Universities www.csumentor.edu has the CSU application.

www.universityofcalifornia.edu has information on Universities of California.

www.ucop.edu/pathways has the UC application.

www.collegedata.com has the common application for private colleges.

There are college catalogs that detail the different classes and majors each college offers, as well as, videos and CD's for students to check out in the College and Career Center.

College representatives visit the CCC to talk with students about their school. Listen to the daily announcements and check out the display window outside the CCC to learn about this information.

If you do not know which college to apply to, there are computer programs that can help!

SAT and other tests

There are books and CDs available to help you get ready for these important tests. In addition, there are forms that will help you register for the tests. Additional information is available for SAT Reasoning Test, SAT Subject Tests, ACT, and TOEFL on the following web sites: www.collegeboard.com


Scholarships

There are MANY scholarships out there for the taking. Are you of Hispanic origin? Do you do community service? Are you an aspiring writer?

There is a scholarship for you! Come and explore. If you fill out the BLUE Scholarship Application form, the CCC will send you scholarships that fit your description. Be sure to visit the CCC frequently as new scholarships arrive daily.

WorkExperience

Do you want extra credits for having a job? Work Experience is a program that can give you just that. Just for coming to class one hour a week, you can earn credits toward graduation. Earn 1 credit for every 36 hours of work. Maximum 10 credits per semester.



Community Service

Do you enjoy doing volunteer work? Would you like to get school credit for your work? 15 hours of uncompensated community service will earn you 1 credit (up to 40 credits/4 years). Most colleges and scholarships require Community Service.

College to Career

When you realize what you want to do with your life, you can get information on the crucial step from high school to your actual career. The CCC will help you find the best job shadowing opportunities, internships, or colleges for your career choices.

Work Experience Coordinator

The College and Career Center is a part of the guidance program and assists with college and career planning, scholarships, and community service. It is located in room B-1. Services are available for students, staff, and parents.

COLLEGE AND CAREER PLANNING

COLLEGE INFORMATION SPECIALIST: Zornia Matavulj ext. 4323

The College and Career Center is open to all students on a drop-in basis during brunch. lunch, before and after school, or with a pass from a teacher. Almost all students visit the Center at some time during the year. Other students have assignments in the Center through their classes, (i.e. college or career project). A one-week career unit is now part of sophomore Safety Education classes.

The College and Career Center is a fully equipped library and resource center of information such as the following:

  • College and university catalogs and brochures including all California public and private institutions and those most frequently requested from out-of-state.
  • College and university reference books
  • Trade and technical school reference books
  • Videos of many colleges and universities
  • College testing information and registration forms
  • Test reference and study materials
  • College applications
  • Financial aid forms and information
  • Career reference books including the Occupational Outlook Handbook, and specific career and occupational brochures.
  • Computer Programs to assist students in choosing and exploring colleges and careers such as: Peterson's Guide to Colleges and Bridges along with access to the Internet
  • Interest inventories, and information about other tests available to students such as the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) and the GED. Information about summer programs, foreign exchange programs, etc.
  • College representatives visit the Center throughout the year to meet with interested students.
  • Outreach representatives meet in the Center on a weekly basis from Canada College. They provide information and workshops to all students and parents on college admissions procedures and financial aid. They are also available to teachers for class presentations.
