Elective Physical Education

Elective Physical Education is for all sophomore students and any junior or junior students who need physical education credit to graduate. The students participate in the second year physical education curriculum, which is aligned to the California State Physical Education Content Standards. Activities included in Elective Physical Education are badminton, softball, tennis, weight training/body conditioning, basketball, flag football, volleyball, soccer, golf, ultimate Frisbee, team hand ball, self defense, yoga, and track and field. Students also participate in an exercise science laboratory unit, which focuses on exercise physiology and the California Content Standards.

 Objectives/ Expected School-wide Learning Results (REAL)

 Students demonstrate proficiency in public and interpersonal communication skills, including speaking and listening. 

Students demonstrate that they act honestly, ethically and responsibly toward themselves and others. 

Students meet or exceed the California Content Standards. 

Students demonstrate that they possess the essential knowledge and skills of self-management and effective work habits.

California Content Standards 

The student will exhibit a physically active lifestyle and will understand that a physical activity provides opportunities, for enjoyment, challenge and self-expression. 

The student will demonstrate responsible personal behavior while participation in movement activities.   

The student will demonstrate responsible social behavior while participating in movement activities.  The student will understand the importance of respect for others. 

The student will understand the interrelationship between history and culture and games, sports, play and dance.
