This course is designed for introducing and developing individual student fitness and sport skills. The sport skills include individual (swimming, weight training, golf, track and field, step aerobics and yoga) dual (tennis, badminton) and team (softball, basketball, football, volleyball, soccer, frisbee, team handball) sports. Students will develop flexibility, muscular strength and endurance, cardio-respiratory endurance and proficiency through many sport skills as well as through our fitness activities and tests. They will understand history, rules and strategies of sports and the many aspects of developing a positive self-image and healthy body. In addition to the exercise, students will also complete a career report. Every freshman will also learn and have the opportunity to be certified in CPR.
Students demonstrate that they act honestly, ethically and responsibly toward themselves and others.
Students demonstrate that they possess the essential knowledge and skills of self-management and effective work habits.
Students demonstrate that they can work effectively and collaboratively with other members of a team or group.

Woodside High School offers a comprehensive, standards-based program of study. Particular emphasis will be placed on the following standards:
The student will be competent in many movement activities.
The student will understand how and why one moves in a variety of situations and will use this information to enhance his or her skills.
The student will achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
