Grading Policy

The grading policy for physical education is as follows: Each student starts with an average of 100 points per quarter. Some quarters are longer than others, so students may start with more than 100 points. Some quarters have assignments related to physical education. Those quarters may have higher points possible as well. Average quarter length is 20 days. 5 points are possible per day, therefore 20 X 5=100.

Scale: 90-100 A

80-89 B

70-79 C

60-69 D

59 and below F

The SUHSD allows 4 absences per quarter and out of those 4 only 1 may be unexcused. Once a student reaches 5 total absences and out of those 5 if 2 are unexcused a student is unable to pass. A student must clear an absence with the attendance office within 20 days. The department uses this as a guideline for physical education. Each absence (excused or unexcused) from physical education is considered a non-participation and the student will lose 5 points. They may have the opportunity to make up excused absences or excused non-participation days the last two weeks of each quarter (meet at 3:15 outside the girls locker room, dressed in the required PE uniform).

-Each suit cut (each student must have their own required T-shirt, sweats/shorts and athletic shoes with socks-sweatshirt is optional) equals minus 5 points. Wearing street clothes underneath or borrowing another students clothes is dangerous, unacceptable and will count as a suit cut. After the third suit cut the student will be given a referral to the vice-principal to make sure that no more suit cuts are obtained and the student passes the class.

-The Physical Education Department follows the Woodside High School Tardy Policy.

-Any sort of misbehavior (talking back to teacher, disrupting class for any reason or failing to attempt the exercise) will result in the student not participating in the activity and may result in the student being given a detention or referral to the vice-principal. Because the student is then unable to participate in the class he/she will have 5 points deducted from their score.

-Non-participation in the required activity because of any medical reason with a parents note will still result in 5 points deducted from a students score. The student will then be able to make up any excused absences or non-participation the last 2 weeks of each quarter. If a student is going to be out for more than 3 days, a doctors note is needed.

Please feel free to contact any Physical Education teacher if you have any concerns.
