COMMUNITY

Woodside High School, home of the Wildcats, has been serving the communities of the mid-peninsula since its opening in 1958. The 34-acre campus lies just east of the Santa Cruz Mountains and is one of four comprehensive high schools and a continuation school in the Sequoia Union High School District. Woodside has approximately 1950 students who come from the surrounding communities of Redwood City, Woodside, Portola Valley, and East Palo Alto. In 2005, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges granted Woodside a six–year accreditation. The school meets all criteria for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) based on No Child Left Behind federal regulations.

Our community reflects the cultural and socio-economic makeup of California. The mid-peninsula is an area of great economic diversity containing some of the most affluent and the most economically deprived communities in the state. Just north of Silicon Valley and Stanford University, Woodside High School is greatly influenced by the rapidly evolving business and cultural interests of the region.

SCHOOL

Woodside is a California Distinguised School with a diversified student body that currently has 38% Caucasian, 62% minority youth including 48% Hispanic, 6% African American, 3% Asian, 3% Pacific Islanders and 2% other students. Our students come from all socio-economic groups. Students follow a block schedule with classes meeting 38 weeks a year and are 90 minutes in length. Most students are enrolled in six classes. The grading system is A, B, C, D, F, CR (credit), NA (no credit due to failure to attend class), FA (no credit due to failure to attend class & have not met minimal educational course requirements), WP (withdrew from class with good standing) and WF (student was failing at time of withdrawal.)

CURRICULUM

We offer the following Advanced Standing and Advanced Placement courses: Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics, Calculus AB, Statistics, English Composition/Language, English Literature, US History, French, Latin, Spanish (language and literature), and Studio Art.

SUPPORT PROGRAMS

Under-represented students can receive academic monitoring and coaching through a variety of programs:

AVID/ MESA (Advancement Via Individual-Determination) is a program for students with a 2.0-3.5 GPA who want to attend a four-year college or university.
