Goals:   Homeroom/Advisory

  1. Send initial survey to students, parents and staff to get a general feeling about a Homeroom/Advisory period.   The survey will be simple and based on our recommendations.
  2. Create a list of benefits and pitfalls of implementing a Homeroom/Advisory period based on input from the surveys and other documented resources.
  3. Develop a proposal for the structure of a homeroom/advisory period that we think could be successful at Woodside High School. This includes necessary modifications to the bell schedule.
  4. Discuss potential solutions to accommodate part-time staff and contractual staff.

Goals: Same Page (Consistent Practices)

  1. Tardies - Need for clarification and a need to handle consistently. There was also recognition that this is an active issue concern matter at SDMC.
  2. Other Schoolwide Important Priority Items Mentioned - Use or non-use of cell phones and IPODs, food, dress, late work policy, appropriate language, use of Communicado, ESLR assignment and Sustained Silent reading.
  3. Teacher/Student Standards - Are there and/or should there be different standards for student and teachers? Cell phone use and food in classroom came up as specific examples.
  4. On demand writing for finals and summer reading came up as examples of consistent practices in English and Social Studies, as did content standards. However, we generally felt that these items might be handled in another task force or were more the purview of a department.

Goals:   Aprendamos Ingles (ELL)

  1. Revise the English Learner Action Plan from 2004-2005.
  2. Gather English Learner data to inform instruction through cycle of inquiry:
                a) years in U.S. schools
                b) school mobility & residency verification
                d) birth certificate & transcript data
                e) grades, credits, instructional placement
  3. Identify EL student success based on tests, grades, credits, graduation rates.
  4. Discuss ways to better serve recently arrived, longterm EL, redesignated students; especially ELs who are:
  5. Non Spanish speakers (Tongan = 12% of ELs; Samoan 3%, Filipino, Hindi (2% each of ELs)
  6. Support ELs & RFEP in mainstream classes

Goals:   The Great Divide (Achievement Gap)

  1. To fully understand achievement gaps that exist, current support systems successfully in place, and possible solutions to help bridge the gaps.
  2. To explore WHSF issue concern on ways to support students in their future goals, whatever they may be (advanced classwork, technology, vocational courses).
  3. To gather information from the district, community, and school regarding future plans for CTE courses.

Goals: Emergency Action Plan

  1. Update personel in key positions and write duties and responsibilities for each job.
  2. Develop education plans for staff and students on EAP Procedures
  3. Identify better locations for emergency supplies and evacuation sites.

Goals:   The Write Stuff (Literacy)

  1. Determine which student writing skills to evaluate.
  2. Create school-wide writing assessment.
  3. Evaluate a variety of writing rubrics.
  4. Determine common rubric to be used by staff in evaluating the school-wide writing assessment.

Goals:   GATE

  1. Develop a more-specific set of goals.
  2. Promote programs and opportunities to GATE   students.
  3. Develop a support system for at-risk GATE   students, GATE students from under-represented groups, and gifted underachievers
  4. Continue the Wildcat WOW! program and promote theuse of the new District GATE identification process.

Goals:   7 th period/Schedule

  1. Respond to the two issue concern forms.
  2. Conduct a survey of stakeholders for the purpose of gathering data – including specific student performance indicators – on the pros and cons of/satisfaction and dissatisfaction with the current block scheduling/seventh period arrangement.
  3. Explore alternative arrangements for a seventh period, including staffing arrangements, mandatory tutoring in lieu of core academic classes (to be determined), and/or any other means by which a more effective learning environment can be created.

Goals:   Greenies and Gardeners

  1. The Greenies discussed their interests and divided themselves into three groups to each concentrate on one goal. At our next meeting each group will refine the following goals and add measurable objectives.
  2. Garden - promoting community and education through the development of a campus garden
  3. Global Issues/Recycling – Decreasing Woodside's footprint. Look at campus energy use and develop ways to decrease energy use. Promote, continue, and increase recycling among all stakeholders on campus.
  4. Education including campus beautification with native plants.
