Welcome to the Business Technology Academy. Students take three years of computer classes. The content of these courses change as we strive to keep up with this ever-changing technology world. Each year students attend at least two field trips. These have a focus on college and career exploration, team work and real world skills that are necessary to be successful.
Sophomores take Academy Computer Applications I. The emphasis in this course is learning various business skills using a number of Microsoft Office programs, Google Docs, Movie Maker, 3d printing and creating 3d designs from scratch that will also be printed on a 3d printer. Students will have several research projects that will be business and college related, then use these computer skills to analyze and present their findings. Several assignments will be integrated with Academy English, Social Science and Math classes. Passing both semesters with a C or higher also earns students college credits.
Juniors take Academy Web Design. The emphasis in this course is learning a number of Adobe programs, using students' creativity to create various decorative documents and designing their own websites. Juniors will also work closely with a mentor who works in a profession that matches the student's career interests. Students will gain practice writing professional e-mails, shadowing their mentor at the mentor's work place, researching the career of their mentor, participating in round table discussions with professionals in a variety of occupations, write a professional resume, attend a career fair that will include mock interviews and additional career exploration. Several assignments will be integrated with Academy English, Social Science and Math classes. Passing both semesters with a C or higher also earns students college credits.
Seniors can choose from an approved list of many additional computer courses to allow them to expand their current knowledge or learn a new variety of computer skills that best fits their interests.
