    ATTENDANCE POLICY:

As an absent student what do you do?

Regular attendance is necessary to get good grades. You must check your own attendance daily (3rd / 4th period) to learn if your absences have been cleared. Letters will be mailed home informing your parents of excessive absences.

How do you clear an absence?

    1) You must clear all absences within five(5) days, including the first day of absence. For example, if you are absent on Monday, February 6th, you must clear the absence by Friday, February 10th, even if you don't return to school until the next week. If you don't clear it, the absence becomes a cut.

    2) Absence can be cleared by a parent phone call to the attendance office or a parent note to be delivered to the attendance office. The attendance office number is 367-9750 ext. 4238, or the recorder number is 367-9750 ext. 4020. Call anytime during the day.

    3) Check your attendance record, daily, 3rd/4th period by examining the PAM Report posted in your 4th period class rooms. Look to see that the Unresolved Absence mark ( / ) has been changed to some other symbol--as below:

    A = Activity, C = Cut, H = Health, S = Suspension, T = Tardy, U = Unexcused, W = Warranted,
/ = Unresolved Absence, 0 = Error or Absolved absence

Clearing your absence must be completed by 3:00pm on the fifth day, or it will become an automatic CUT.

    4) If you cut class, the absence can not be cleared.

    5) If you are detained by a teacher, nurse, guidance advisor or administrator and are late to class, get an NCR pass to class from this person. It is your responsibility to turn the pass into the attendance office after the receiving teacher signs it.

    6) Students must get a Permit to Leave from either the nurse, attendance office, or an administrator before leaving school for any reason. The white copy must be signed and returned to the attendance office. If a student leaves without permission, an automatic cut will be given. No one can excuse the student after the absence.

    7) If you have a question about your total number of absences (cleared and uncleared), you may request a printout from the attendance office or an administrator.

What happens if you cut a class?

    1) If you are found out of class without a pass after the tardy bell, you will be directed to go to class or to the office.

    2) Attendance will be recorded on your report cards.

    3) Teachers can require you to serve detention for cuts or excessive tardies. If you don't go when assigned, the vice principals can give penalties which could be as severe as suspension from school.

    4) Teachers place a great deal of weight for grades on class participation. Cutting or missing class will mean you will have too few participation points. If you have too few participation points, you may fail to meet class objective which could result in a lower grade.

    5) If you cut class, the teacher does not have to allow you to make up missed work.

    6) If you are declared "habitually truant" (8 single period cuts), you will lose these privileges:

    A) Work permits B) School sports C) Extracurricular Activities
