Woodside High School 8th Grade Shadowing Program

Thank you for your interest in the 8th Grade Shadowing Program. We look forward to giving you a glimpse of a day in the life of Woodside High School student. Enjoy the vibrant campus, rich in activities and opportunities to grow. Get a feel for the springboard to such universities as Cal Berkeley, UCLA, Stanford, MIT, NYU, and others. Woodside High School offers a rigorous academic program geared towards the completion of the UC/CSU A--G Requirements and a solid preparation for the next level of scholarship and disciplinary study.

We understand that students have a choice. We encourage you to give Woodside High School strong consideration. We are confident that our comprehensive high school experience, comprised of clubs, competitive athletic teams, leadership organizations, spirit rallies, field trips, work-experience opportunities, and mentorships, offers all students a unique opportunity to express their individuality, creativity, and spirit. Programs such as the School Ambassador Program, Kids Learning Empathy and Respect (KLEAR), and Students Offering Support (SOS) strive to foster an environment in which all students feel welcome to express themselves and in which all students respect one another.

8th Grade Shadowing will take place between mid-September till early February of the school year and will occur on A-days (see A/B Calendar below). This shadow program is designed for 8th grade students, including transfer students, who are interested in attending Woodside High School. The 8th grade shadow program is run through the leadership class and the students in leadership are the shadow leaders. Woodside no longer takes individual requests for specific shadow leaders.

This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people; we are sure that you will find Woodside students to be friendly, welcoming, and fun.

Shadow Day Overview

The shadowing at Woodside is set up in a way for prospective students to get a glimpse of an average day for a Woodside High School student. Shadows will be placed in small groups of 2-3 students. With their group, the shadows will observe 3 academic courses. Then the shadows will be taken on a tour of the campus with a WHS student. During the tour, shadows are encouraged to ask questions and inquire about various interests. Each shadow group is lead by a WHS leadership student. The leadership student will escort the shadow students around campus as well as lead the tour. The shadow students will have lunch with the leadership student.

Please note that the shadow students are NOT allowed to request shadow leaders. Furthermore, Woodside is not able to accommodate special requests of which classes are observed.

Shadows are to be in the main office by 8:45am. The shadow day will end at 1:00pm, except on Wednesdays the day will end at 12:30pm. Below is an overview of the day. Please note the times are slightly different on Wednesday.
