Department Course Description
The Woodside High School Social Science Department offers four required courses and one elective.
Freshmen: Life Skills / Ethnic Studies
Life Skills focuses on decision-making, mental and social health, community wellness, and substance abuse prevention.
Ethnic Studies helps students develop the skills to critically examine local and state histories through the lenses of race, gender, and class.
EML offered.
Sophomores: World History
This course covers more than 500 years of world history, highlighting the growing interconnectedness of people, products, diseases, knowledge, and ideas across the globe.
EML and AP offered.
Juniors: United States History
A study of U.S. history with an emphasis on the political, social, and economic developments of the 20th century.
EML and AP offered.
Seniors: American Government and Economics (one semester each)
Each course provides a survey of the major concepts and structures of government and economic systems. Seniors also complete the Senior Thesis, a required individual research project.
EML and Dual Credit offered.
Electives: AP Psychology
Available to juniors and seniors, this college-level course introduces students to the systematic and scientific study of human behavior and mental processes.

Dual Credit = In conjunction with Cañada College
